SMARTEST COUNTY CAMPAIGN

A COUNTY-WIDE EXPERIENCE TO PREVENT AND END PARTNER ABUSE.

Challenge.  Understand.  Declare.

WE KNOW DV

"May I be the abuser and you be the well-meaning bystanders?"That's an abuser asking a community an unspoken ludicrous question — a Ludi-Q™. Without meaning to, we have answered "Yes" to this ludicrous question and many others. How do we know? Because partner abuse and domestic violence continue. Our collective "yes" forms an unspoken contract between us and abusers. The contract will remain in place until we change our answer, or abusers stop abusing.

This campaign helps communities of people change their answers to the unspoken ludicrous questions offenders ask, which will position and re-sensitize them to take action.

This campaign is about prompting both of those things.

How the WE kNOw DV Campaign works:

  1. Challenge: One county challenges another county in a friendly competition to be the "Smartest county about domestic violence." They use the turn-key WE kNOw DV Campaign to do it.

  2. Understand: During the ten- to twelve- month effort, the residents of each county learn the ten most important things to know about partner violence. They show what they have learned by taking a quiz at the end of the campaign.

  3. Declare: Both counties declare themselves smart and ready to prevent and end domestic violence, and the county with the highest percentage of quiz-takers is the winning county.

  4. Challenge: They challenge two others counties to repeat their success.
  • Abusers will continue to ask us unspoken ludicrous questions until we collectively answer "No!"

    Let's begin now.
THE CHALLENGE HAS BEEN ISSUED AND ACCEPTED!

Coos County, Oregon, issued a challenge to Hood River County, Oregon, and now the race is on to be declared the "Smartest County in the State About Domestic Violence."

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has signed a proclamation encouraging all Oregonians to participate in the WE kNOw DV campaign, and interest is mounting from other counties to begin their own competitions.

This unique turn-key campaign adapts to a county's timeline and budget. It is offender-focused, switching the question from "Why does she stay?" to "Why does he beat her?" It includes a friendly competition and engages the community using Ludi-Q's™. Ludi-Q's™ are shortcuts to clarity about the unspoken ludicrous questions that go back and forth between people.
